So har we are, Nov 5, two days after Lection Day an we’all’re jus a bit closer to findin out who the next President Of The United States (POTUS) will be.  But jus a bit…

Ah almos didn’t write this har article cuz ah knew it’d be a longun an the lection ain’t even over yet.  BUT, ah realized that it dun be better to jaw bout it now than when folk ain’t payin much attention anymore!  So…

We dun got two determined folk who’re wantin the same job.

On the President’s hand we’all got us a man who dun seems to be willin to do jus bout anythin to stay in office.  He got hisself:

1. Bout 213 Electoral votes,
2. Has bin sayin that “mail-in” votes are fake, but “absentee” votes’re gud (they dun be the same),
3. Has bin sabotagin the Postal Service fur the last 4-5 months so as they ain’t gonna be able to do a gud job deliverin them ballots in time to be counted accordin to they’s state laws.
4. Bin sayin that we’all shud only count the votes that them States’re able to count on Nov 3, even though thar be ballots that’re dun sent befur or on Nov 3.
5. Sendin a buncha goons tryin to intimidate everone involved in the countin,
6. Bin callin Republican governors an askin if’n they can send Electors that’ll vote fur him no matter what the state vote says who dun won,
7. A buncha lawyer folk who’re throwin jus bout everthin they’all can thunk of against the wall hopin that sumthin will stick to the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS)’ walls!

Basically, Pres Trump seems to thunk only votes that go to him are gud an those that don’t’re fake!  An his lawyers dun remind me of sum monkeys ah saw at the zoo, pooin in they hands an throwin it at the crowds watchin them (thank goodness fur the glass walls!).

On the other hand, we got VP Biden who:

1. Dun got bout 4 million more votes (in total, about 2.5-3% more) than Pres Trump
2. Has bout 253 Electoral votes,
3. Dun be askin that all legal votes be counted,
4. Is tryin to make sure everthin is dun correct-like an legal-like.

The thang is, VP Biden is likely to win, but his wins in the “states that count” (the so-called “swing states”), will most likely be by less’n 1%.  An keep in mind he’ll probly have bout 2.5% more votes (2.5% is a lot more than less than 1% when it comes to votin).

Heck, Pres Trump dun be Tweetin, “Stop Counting Votes!”  An that jus don’t make no sense cuz if they stop now, VP Biden is ahead in enough states to make him the winner of the lection!!!  Surely, he ain’t that stoopid!

Unfurtunately, this dun mean this har lection probly gonna be decided by the SCOTUS.  Agin.  An Pres Trump dun appointed three of the nine justices who’ll be harin the cases.

So, unless VP Biden wins enuf states that the SCOTUS can’t overturn it without showin it be almost completely corrupt, we’all’re probly lookin at nutter couple weeks befur we know, fur shur, who’ll actually be President.

Y’all’re probly thunkin, “Ranty!  Y’all said in the title, ‘Sumthin’s Gotta Change’, so git to the point!”

Well, the point dun be that this ain’t the way a democracy shud be carryin on a lection.  Ok, so we are a Republic, but we are a Democratic Republic.  In other wurds, the USofA is a Republic wit our representatives picked by democratic votin!

Ain’t it strange that the only two lected offices in the entire Unites States of Merica, who’re supposed to represent ALL Mericans, are the only two offices that ain’t picked by the majority of Mericans?  They dun be picked by 535 “Electors”, instead?  Even wurse, sum of them Elector folk can vote against the will of their state (even if’n it be illegal in thar state, they’d dun be called “faithless Electors”)?

The bottom line is we’all dun need to git rid of this Electoral College system so that EVER Merican vote will count equal to ever other vote! Right now, only the votes in the “swing states” really make a differnce cuz all the other states dun be so far to one side or the other, the minority voters in those states pretty much don’t count.  Heck, there’re sum states that the candidates don’t even visit at all (e.g. Alaska an Hawaii).

Unfurtunately, there’re only two ways to effectively git rid of the Electoral College:

1. Git a Constitutional Amendment passed whut liminates the Electoral College an make ever lected office in the Country a “popular vote” office.
2. Do like many states are doin an pass legislation that dun says thar Electoral College votes will be pledged to whoever wins the national popular vote.  The states that’re doin this’re makin the legislation only apply if enuf states wit 270 or more Electoral College votes (half the total Electoral College votes, plus one) also pass this legislation.  Right now five states have passed this legislation an there’re bout ten more considerin doin so.  But we probly need at least 20 or so states signed up to git this way dun fur gud.

While #2 is easier to git dun, it is also easier to undo.

But we need to do sumthin, so let’s try to git it dun sumtime soon!
