The US Constitution an the “Honor System”…

Ranty McRantyson Bout the Insurrection

Hi Ranty Nation! Ranty McRantyson har agin.

Well, this’n’s gonna take a while cause it’s a bit complicated an ah’m gonna try to tie it into whut’s goin on today. So this’ll be about twice as long a my previous rants. So hang in thar an har we’all go!

Pres Trump and them Congresscritters dun got me all riled up an ah’m ready for some rantin!

Well, ah bin doin some more ruminatin an dun thunk up a storm. Whut’ve ah bin thunkin bout? Why the US Constitution an how it might appear to have dun failed “We, the People”.

If’n y’all look at the guvmint today, y’all might not realize that there are supposed to be “three co-equal branches” in it. They are: (in no special order)

  1. The Legislative Branch
  2. The Judicial Branch
  3. The Executive Branch

Let’s talk bout these real quick so that we’all’ll be on the same page.

The legislative branch of guvmint is whar them thar laws are written. This means Congress, which dun be the Senate an the House of Representatives.

The judicial branch of guvmint is whar them thar laws are adjudicated (adjudicated is a fancy wurd fur “tried”, “settled”, or “sit in judgement”). The Supreme Court of the United States (also known as SCOTUS) is the ultimate determiner of them thar laws that Congress writes an the Constitution (an Amendments) says. The rest of them courts is supposed to follow SCOTUS lead, even SCOTUS itself (that’s whut’s called “precedent”).

The executive branch of guvmint is whar them thar laws dun be implemented. This branch is run by the President of the United States (also known as POTUS). This branch is supposed to implement the laws written by the legislative branch an as “adjudicated” by SCOTUS (an lower federal courts if’n SCOTUS ain’t decided on a thang at that thar time). Of course, the executive branch has some leeway in how it dun might do the implementin, but not TOO much leeway.

Of course, now that puts we’all in the age of POTUS Donald J. Trump. He dun taken the executive branch’s “leeway” to a whole new level. He dun thunk (an said in public) he can not only write his own laws through “executive orders” (which have dun usually bin used as “guidance” for how the executive branch’ll implement the laws written by Congress), but that he has “unlimited power” to do whutever he want.

Now if’n yur thunkin he dun sound like he dun thunk he’s a dictator, well he shur seem like he’s tryin to be! An it really shouldn’t be much of a surprise since some of his favorite folks are dictators (in fact, if not in name) such as Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Phillipine’s Rodrigo Duterte, Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro, an an off an on agin relationships wit North Korea’s Kim Jong Un an “President for Life” (Trump: “We should try that here”) of China, Xi Jinping.

Now, wit “co-equal” branches of guvmint, they’re supposed to “balance each other out” an keep each other “under control”. Unfurtunately, both the legislative an judicial branches of guvmint dun seem to have decided to jus lay over an play dead fur our “fearless leader” Pres “Private Bone Spurs” Trump!

So, that gits we’all back to the US Constitution an how it dun seems to have failed “We, the People” in keepin them “co-equal” branches of guvmint in balance.

Well, as ah said at the beginnin of this har rant, ah dun some thunkin to try to figure out this har puzzle. Cuz we’all know that thar US Constitution is “perfect”! Right?

Well, thar’s an assumption built into the Constitution that them thar Foundin Father’s implicitly understood (meanin that they dun knew it without sayin). That they dun believed “We, the People” would, mostly, vote in “men of honor”. Folk who’d not only truly believe in the idea of, but also be, “public servants”. Folk who’d try to do whut’s best for thems constituents (another fancy wurd fur the folk they represent) not jus themselfs or thar donors.

The sad thang is, “We, the People” don’t seem to be doin such a bang up job electin honest an honorable folk. Personally, ah blame the recent increase in corruption (say over the las 10 years) on the, IMO, horrible Citizen’s United vs FEC decision that said corporations could donate unlimited sums of money to political campaigns. That just don’t make no sense!

This har stupidity has been reaffirmed by the SCOTUS many times since an they be givin corporations more an more “rights” ever since… even more’n “We, the People” git!

Anyhoo, whut’s happened since Citizen’s United, is that corporations git to spend as much money on elections as they want to. An whut happens then is the politician folk who run (an usually git elected) are the kind of folk who’ll do whutever they’all’s donors want them to do. The new politician’s motto seems to be straight outta the movie, Jerry McGuire, “Show me the money!”

As y’all can probly guess, them folk ain’t so honest OR honorable (hmm, deja vu, seems like ah dun said that already). But the Foundin Fathers kinda assumed most of the politicians who’d dun be elected would be both (mostly) honest an (mostly) honorable.

Whut we dun got now is a whole pot fulla dishonest an dishonorable folk in political office an they jus do whutever their donors want an roll over for any bully who comes along. Like Pres Trump.

An that thar situation is whar we’re at right now. We dun got two branches of guvmint who won’t do their job controllin the third branch. Ah have to admit ah never figured that them thar Congresscritters would lay down like that. Especially since they seemed to value thar power so much when Pres Obama was in office.

Ah guess the long an short of mah point is that the US Constitution is a pretty darned gud piece of paper on which to base our country’s guvmint on. While the Foundin Fathers tried to account for, an limit, the evil some folk might try to do to take over the country, they were honorable men (with many flaws) who figured our country wud be run by lected, but mostly honorable folk.

So we’all have a problem that, furtunately, we can still correct. We have a president who dun thunk he not only above the law, but that he can do whutever he wants an “We, the People” will lay down an let him, jus like Congress an the Courts are doin.

How do we’all correct the problem? Y’all dun guessed it, we “vote the bum(s) out” of office! By “bum” ah mean Pres Trump an his Congresscritter followers, in case y’all ain’t figured that out yet…

So git out there an vote! Ah don’t care whut the polls say, y’all gotta get out thar an vote or y’all are gonna let this “bum” stay in office!

Y’all may not like VP Joe Biden, but he’s worlds better’n Pres Trump any day of the week an twice on Sunday!
